Land Sale - Open Forums

In August 2016 the school consulted the community regarding the Governing body’s proposal to sell the vacant caretaker’s bungalow based on our school site, in conjunction with an adjacent piece of land at the edge of the school’s Athletics Field. The school consultation did not raise any valid concerns, however, the project was put on hold whilst the school managed the tender process for operating the sports centre and converted to an academy joining GLF Schools.
We now have the capacity to resume the project with a view to advertising the land for sale in the near future. As more than 12 months have passed since the previous consultation, guidelines are such and it is appropriate, that we go out to consultation once again. You may recall that the bungalow has been empty for over two years, is at risk of falling into disrepair, and the land attached to it is an area of scrub land that forms the border with Burntwood Lane. Neither the bungalow nor the land has been used for educational purposes. For your information, a map of the site is provided overleaf with the proposed area for sale totalling approximately 2080m2 of playing field land and 1299m2 of non-playing field land.
This area is owned by the school but we have to apply to the Secretary of State for Education to sell it and, as part of this process, we are required to undertake a six-week consultation period. In addition to this, as the land is considered part of the school playing field (regardless as to whether it is used or not), there is a clear stipulation from the DfE that all funds generated from the sale must be reinvested in improving the existing sports facilities for the benefit of the school and wider community.
The consultation with stakeholders commences on Monday 12 March 2018 for a six week period until 5pm on Friday 20 April 2018. To ensure you are fully informed, we are holding two open events at the school where interested parties can come and look at the plans in detail and ask questions of representatives of the School Strategy Board and the school’s Business Manager. These open forums are being held on Wednesday 14 March, 10am - 12pm and Thursday 15 March, 5 - 7pm.
