Easter Message from Mr Duffield

As we finish the Spring term, I wish to thank the entire Glyn community of students, staff and families for their continued fantastic commitment to the school and collective contribution to making this such a successful term.

In the past two weeks we have again been fortunate to welcome Michele Miller to the school. Michele has led evening Revision Skills presentations for our Year 11 and Year 13 students and their families. These presentations have proved incredibly popular and insightful and, along with the personalised Revision Folders issued to all students, and our programme of Easter Revision sessions, we trust that all of our students are equipped to make the most of the Easter break in their preparations for their GCSE and A Level exams next term.

Today the whole school came together in our traditional manner for an assembly to reflect upon and celebrate all that we have achieved this term. The bulk of these assemblies are presented by our Student Leadership Team, consisting of our Head Girl and Boy, Anya Losyk and Lewis Rogerson, supported by their Deputies, Lucie Begbie, Niya Ivanova, Lily Kyle, James Kelly, James Peters and Thomas Ralton.  The highlight of the assembly saw the announcement of the composition of our new Student Leadership Team.  Following a rigorous interview process, for the past two weeks applicants for Head Boy and Head Girl have presented their case with hustings in front of all students during a series of assemblies. Students and staff then cast their views in a ballot. The choice was incredibly difficult, given the outstanding calibre of the entire cohort of candidates.

I am delighted to confirm that the baton has been handed on to our new Head Girl and Head Boy, Rebecca Norman and James Besley-Tyrrell, who are joined by the team of Deputies, Emily Nejand, Emma O’Neill, Phoebe Spencer, Tomas Davey, Marcus Roberts and Ben Sammon.  I am incredibly excited at the prospect of working with this team of outstanding young leaders and witnessing the contribution that they will bring to improving our school. I would also like to pay tribute to the outgoing Student Leadership Team and thank them for their remarkable dedication and effort during the past 12 months.

As with every term, we say goodbye to a number of colleagues as they move on to pastures new. We would like to thank Mrs James for her valued contribution to the SEND department, and wish Dr Smith well as he moves on from the Science Faculty.  We are delighted to officially welcome Mr Lawal to the Science Faculty, who will also be joined by our new Head of Physics, Mr Sinclair.

I would like to extend my best wishes to all our students and families in the hope of a restful Easter break, whilst reminding our Year 11 and Year 13 students that their long summer break would be the more appropriate time to relax in earnest.
