Over the last six months, with the enormous help of the Glyn PSA and Mr Martin, Director of Sport, the school has already very kindly donated some obsolete sports items to charity.
The 'Let the Kids Play' charity was set up in 2016 and was designed to supply used football kits, boots and footballs to disadvantaged children in Ghana to increase participation and social inclusion. The target area is situated in the same region as the Philip Qua Que School, our partner school in Ghana.
The idea for ‘Let the Kids Play’ was inspired by the number of football boots the founder, Percy Hutchful, used to see abandoned in Battersea Park. It is said that approximately two million pairs of shoes are thrown away in the UK every year and Percy is using this opportunity to aid children from Ghana to participate in a sport they love. In recent times over 100 pairs of boots and lots of kit were donated and sent to a team in Ghana (Peace United) whom Percy had previously coached whilst on holiday. They put on a tournament and several workshops on the day, before handing over the donation. The aim is to form and support a further two teams in the future which have already been identified.
It would be great if anyone within the Glyn School family, or indeed from the local community, was willing to donate any used (or indeed unused) sports clothing/accessories to the cause. Perhaps you have links with a sports team and that organisation is looking to offload equipment. All donations would be gratefully received.
