Over the past term a group of passionate and talented pupils at Chestnut Park Primary School have been part of a newly established Rap Club. Through this initiative, the children have explored the art of rap, from writing lyrics to creating dynamic performances including the school end of year carnival. The club has been a space for self-expression, collaboration, and confidence-building, with students embracing the rhythm and rhyme to tell their stories and share their voices. The club has also encouraged the children to explore their love of language and reading and using those skills, they have worked together to write two original pieces.

The rap creations showcase the talent and creativity flourishing in the club; recognising their potential, and with support from the GLF Schools’ Foundation, the school were delighted to take this experience to the next level by arranging a visit to Crown Lane Studio, a professional recording studio. This opportunity allowed the young artists to step into a real-world creative environment, record their original tracks, and see the fruits of their hard work come to life.

“Performing at a studio was exciting” – Zachariah Year 6

“I’ve been in rap club since Year 5, I think it’s really cool that the school have allowed us to record this amazing song” – Julianne Year 6

The experience at Crown Lane Studio has not only inspired the children but has also shown them the possibilities that come with determination and creativity.

To celebrate their achievements, one of the two tracks that was recorded at Crown Lane Studio will be released onto all major streaming platforms on Monday 27th January 2025, following an exclusive launch to the school community last week.

Executive Headteacher Rachel Jacob and Head of School Sarah Rumbol commented, “We are incredibly proud of our students and grateful for the rap club leaders, Aekino James and Kareem Myers, the support from our staff members and Crown Lane Studio for making this experience possible. We hope this initiative serves as a reminder of the importance of arts in education and the incredible talent that we have at Chestnut Park.”
