Longford Park Primary School unveils new art installation

Longford Park has unveiled a new art installation by Cotswold based artist Emma Cox.
The art, which is suspended from the ceiling of the school hall, is titled ‘The Garden of Imagination’. This aerial sculpture was inspired by the beauty and vibrancy of the natural world, in particular flowers, leaves and hummingbirds, creating a bright kaleidoscope of colours.
Over 1000 hand-drawn laser cut shapes have been used in the display, each individually and beautifully hand painted by the children of Longford Park Primary School.
The hummingbird is the emblem of GLF Schools – their vibrancy of colour represents energy and diversity while their ability to migrate very long distances symbolises the persistence that leads to success in life.
Artist Emma Cox said: “The sculpture was inspired by the beauty and vibrancy of the natural world, in particular flowers, leaves and hummingbirds, creating a bright kaleidoscope of colours. Over 1000 hand-drawn laser cut shapes have been used in the display, each individually and beautifully hand painted by the children of Longford Park Primary School.”
The unveiling was attended by GLF Schools’ CEO Julian Drinkall, as well as local MP Sean Woodcock and other local dignitaries.
Zoe Spilberg, Headteacher at Longford Park, said: “The arts are at the heart of our thriving school. They inspire creativity, boost confidence, and help children express themselves in ways that words sometimes cannot. Whether through music, drama, or visual arts, these experiences enrich learning, nurture well-being, and ignite a lifelong love of exploration and imagination.
“Encouraging our children to think creatively not only enhances their artistic abilities but also develops their problem-solving skills, flexible-thinking and innovation - essential qualities for their future success.”
The children are enjoying the new artwork, “I love the vibrancy and variety of the colours.” said Scarlett, whilst Amelie loves “the nature theme and how all the colours shine in the light”. Sienna said “I like how everybody’s work is on the wall and not just a few. Everyone feels part of it.” and Isabella likes “how it makes the hall more welcoming and colourful”.
This project was the creative vision of the artist Emma Cox and was made possible with generous funding from Cotswolds Arts Through Schools.
Sean Woodcock MP said: “Thank you to Longford Park School for inviting me along to this event. It was great to meet pupils and teachers on Friday and speak to them about the artwork and all the wonderful work that is going on in the school.
“I was really impressed by the artwork, and the pupils at Longford Park School should be rightly proud of their achievement. Thank you to CATS (Cotswold Arts Through Schools), Cherwell District Council and Banbury charities for supporting pupils with this wonderful piece.”
