GCSE JOY FOR GLF SCHOOLS
There were smiles galore across our secondary schools as students collected their GCSE results.
Glyn's GCSE results revealed a record progress score with 40% of all exam entries achieving grades 9-7 while 88% were awarded a 4+ in both English and Maths.
“We are incredibly proud of all our Year 11 students who have achieved a record progress score for Glyn students,” said Head of School Jo Garrod. “Most importantly we are particularly delighted with the exceptional outcomes for our most vulnerable students. These students have undergone a turbulent period whilst studying their GCSE subjects and have achieved a fantastic set of results.”
It was a landmark day for Aureus as students and staff enjoyed their first ever GCSE results day.
All their students sitting the triple science exam were awarded Grade 4 or above, and 100% of students who entered two modern language qualifications also achieved Grade 4 or higher.
“This group of students were the founding year group at Aureus School and have overcome many obstacles in the past three years due to Covid disruption," said Headteacher Julie Hunter. “Many students had to isolate at least once, losing valuable exam preparation time, and they also experienced staff isolating too. The results they have received have been earned under exceptional circumstances and they have embodied the school values of courage, ambition and resilience. "
Despite the challenges of the pandemic, Rosebery students received record GCSE results, surpassing the outstanding outcomes achieved in both 2019 and 2021.
A remarkable 53% of all GCSE entries were graded 9 to 7 with a third of all entries graded as 9 or 8. In English and Maths, 93% of students achieved a Grade 4 or better, while 80% achieved a Grade 5 or better.
“The Class of 2022 have achieved results that are outstanding by any measure, which is testament to their hard work and dedication throughout two years of disrupted GCSE study,” said Head of School David Lach.
In Caterham, de Stafford's students and staff were celebrating another excellent set of GCSE results this year. Performance against key headline measures was up on 2019, with particularly strong progress seen in English where 80% of the cohort achieved at least a grade 4 and 64% grade 5.
Headteacher Jeremy Garner said, “These outcomes do not happen by accident and are a testament to the dedication and hard work of the students as well as the excellent support and guidance provided by staff, governors and parents. I am pleased that the cohort, as a whole, achieved so well against a background of significant curriculum reform and change as well as recognising the way this cohort have coped with the impact that school closures have had on their GCSE journey.”
At The Beacon, students and staff celebrated their best ever GCSE results with 73% of students gaining their English and Maths GCSEs, and a number of subjects doubling their top grades compared to 2019.
Headteacher Keith Batchelor said: “I am so delighted for our students and families that we have achieved these record results. They come after five years of hard work and especially the commitment of the school throughout the exceptional challenges of the pandemic."
He added, "Our staff have gone above and beyond over this time and we are all so proud of the outcome of this effort.”
In New Addington, Meridian students celebrated their school's best ever GCSE results.
Head of school Amy Anderson said: “With the highest percentage of students than ever before leaving Meridian with strong passes, including in English and Maths, we are incredibly proud of our Year 11 students. Having faced unprecedented challenges, they truly demonstrated our core value of resilience and have a lot to celebrate."
She added: “We wish all of our students well for the future, and we look forward to continuing embedding our vision to be the centre of excellence our community deserves.”
